Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area Hollister, CA October 4, 1998

The vehicle of choice was definitely the Jeep (we're so cool!). But we saw quite a variety. Even one of those new Mercedes SUV things was going at it. There were Ford and Chevy monster trucks with motors so loud you could feel it in your stomach. A dad and his two kids in a standard Jeep Cherokee were having a lot of fun riding up and over the little hills on the obstacle course. And there was a Scout group that seemed to get into several precarious situations. A dune buggy dealio periodically buzzed by and blew up dust as he spun out, and looked "so cool" it was unbelievable (shya right). While the obstacle course was fun, I thought the trails were really really fun (in a scary kind of way). They are very narrow and you can only navigate about 200 feet in front of you, so you never know what lies around the next turn. We came upon a huge duelie Dodge truck half way up a really steep hill, they weren't going to try it any further and rolled down. So we tried it and got to the same place they got stuck, and had to roll back down as well. Rolling backward with no traction is beyond the frightening zone as far as I'm concerned.
