Hollister Hills

October 4, 1998

We finally made it to the summit and it was well worth the sweat. The view is beautiful. You can see the whole San Juan Bautista Valley. Here Noel looks out from the "quarry", which is just a big rock pile that you can drive over and spin out in. This was another scary place that was easy to lose traction in. But the kind of scary that when your done you laugh really hard because it was fun.
Thank god this wasn't us! We caught up with the Scout group on our way out and found this. We both said "oh my god" in unison when we turned the corner and saw this Scout buried to over the tires in mud. They tried to dig it out but the tires were so packed there was no way that was going to work. So they pulled it out by sending another truck over the back side of the hill. Hollister Hills is open 7 days a week. It's a good idea to call to find out conditions (for example, the day we went they weren't allowing any more motorcycles in). For information call (408) 637-3874. You can also check out the Hollister Hills SRVA site or the California Department of Parks and Recreation for more info.
