We have been talking about going to Lick Observatory for over a year now, and last Sunday we finally went. Initially, we had planned on sleeping all day Sunday, but when we woke up, I (Noel) had a sudden burst of energy to go somewhere. I suggested the San Jose mission (I'm sure this will be a future trip), but then Jason said "hey, no, let's go to the Observatory". I think this whole fascination with going there started last year after we saw "Contact".

The prospect of seeing a huge ass telescope was overwhelming, so we hopped in the Jeep and headed out. We had gotten directions before we left and saw that it was a mere 20 miles out of San Jose. It's just straight up Alum Rock road (exit off 680) up to Mount Hamilton. I thought "hey, we should be there in about half an hour". Little did I know those 20 miles would take us a good hour to drive. I swear it was the windiest road I've ever been on. I kept thinking "one more turn and we'll be there", I must have thought that about a thousand times. Not only is the road beyond twister action, it's littered like a dump. What's up with that?! People... don't dump your 1964 couch off the side of the highway... geez!
