If you squint your eyes, and imagine horses and
buggies running around, then you can probably picture what Niles may have
looked like 75 years ago or so. Looking around the historical buildings
are hints of a time when buildings didn't consist of strictly apartment
living and the ornamentation gave each building a unique look.
Sometime around the end of August or so the entire downtown,
as well as 6 blocks in all directions, become a massive flea market. Or
garage sale. Whatever you call it, it's a massive event. The town comes
to a halt for everyone to unload their junk. Both good junk and bad junk
can be found, and lots of it.
Just outside of Niles is the cool Niles Canyon area. We'll plan on checking
this out on another trip.
