This Thanksgiving we were lucky enough to be invited to spend time in Seattle. Our good friends Whitney and Mark were our hosts for this twenty something holiday (oops, Mark is the only thirtysomething (crippled old man!)). We arrived the night before at around 10:30 p.m. We though for sure air traffic would be from hell, but surprisingly the airport was a piece of cake. Ba-da- bing ba-da-boom, we got our luggage, got our rental car and we headed for the city. We were going to stay in Whitney's apartment, which is near the Queen Anne district of Seattle. We were there by 11:15, and of course (in typical Seattle fashion) it was raining. We were prepared for the rain, but not for the dancing pig statue located right out of Whitney's kitchen window. What a kick! Seattle is full of things like this. Eclectic things locals probably take for granted, but engraciate the city to kitschy tourists like ourselves.

Upon orders from Whitney we woke up early to get our "bird in the oven". We had a 24 pounder, so it would take about 6 hours to cook. Our goal was to get it in by 10, we tried, but with all the salmonella prevention going on we got it in at 11. No big deal! Heck we had all day to eat hors d'oeuvres, drink wine, and watch movies. Our selections included So I Married an Ax Murderer (*****) and Lost in Space aka "Let's Get Busy"(*).

The closer we got to turkey doneness the more we had to do. We had potatoes to mash, stuffing to unstuff, gravy to make, beans to steam, and carrots to "fry" or saute. At one point we were all stuffed in Mark's tiny kitchen. We couldn't turn around, but we were one mean cooking machine! And it all turned out so awesome! Seriously one of the best Thanksgiving meals ever! Whitney's master baster techniques payed off big time. The turkey was perfect. After rolling around the floor in pain for an hour after we ate, we decided to eat again. This time it was pie! Whitney works in a coffee house on top of Queen Anne, called Ladro, which has amazing baked goods, including the 10 pound pumpkin pie we grubbed on. Her friend Aaron whipped up some home made whipped cream and we all popped our pants buttons!
