We decided to devote Saturday, our last full day in Seattle, to sightseeing
and shopping. Whitney and Mark suggested we hit the Fremont district, which
is full of great shops and coffee houses. Antique stores like "Deluxe Junk"
offer treasures from the age of our grandparents. And others such as "les
amis" have an incredible selection of unique clothing and accessories. If
you're a girl, or are with a girl (Mark and Jason spent a lot of time outside
waiting on the sidewalk), you HAVE to go to the Fremont district! There are
to many good things here!
After our morning of window shopping we went to the waterfront for lunch at
Rays. The nice thing about this place is the incredible view. On a clear day
you can see the entire harbor over to the Olympic mountains. After lunch Whit
and Mark dropped us off at the Seattle Museum of Art because Whitney had to
rehearse for her show later that evening. We got there around 3 and only had
about an hour to wander around. The special exhibit was on Egypt and it was
really interesting. The bad thing is that we went on a Saturday and it was
very crowded, and crowded museums make for hot museums. It was cool to see
actual 2000 year old relics and imagine how many other people over the ages
have looked at what you're looking at right now! Wooah... deep thought!
After racing and sweating our way through the museum we called Mark and they
came and picked us up. One thing about Seattle is that if you can, cab or bus
everywhere. Driving and parking are nothing but aggravation. Anyway, we had
to get home to get ready to go to Whitneys show. She's an amazing singer
and she's currently fronting a band called Plush Safe. That night they were
playing the Baltic Room, which is a beautiful old cocktail lounge. It's all
about mahogany walls and red velvet curtains! Cocktail for the lady! Plush
Safe has a rich sound. Somewhere between Sade and Stevie Wonder. If you're
in town and you get a chance, go check out Whit strut her stuff!
So that was our trip to Seattle. We had a blast! It's a very hospitable,
friendly place, where even if your a tourist you don't feel like one. We have
to say thank you about a million time to our fabulous host and hostess. Thank
you, thank you, thank you!!! If you get the chance jump at going to Seattle,
you'll love it!
